Premature opinion: I don't like DDR Extreme USA

DDR Extreme is not impressing me.

None of the songs have yet jumped out at me as being irresistibly cool. Maybe I just haven't gotten to or unlocked them yet, but so far it's okay but not great.

The UI has changed. It's not obviously an improvement. Various steps have different effects - scrolling through songs is backwards from MAX and MAX2; changing difficulty is single up/down steps instead of double, so it's much easier to do accidentally. There are fewer songs visible at a time, and you can only see the scores of the current song. On the plus side, you can see letter grades for all difficulty levels for the current song. And I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the groove radar.

This is all compounded by one pad finally failing annoyingly and starting songs while we're still scrolling through them. It's not the game's fault, but it's not helping any, either.

The Eyetoy stuff is not working so well for us. Having a dark-wood wall behind it probably isn't helping any.

my ddr extreme hasn't shown up yet (scheduled to ship tomorrow), but i was worried about how well the eye toy would actually work, to the point where i planned to wait a while before even thinking about buying one to see how they worked. the area in front of my ps2 is pretty "visually complex" too, which i'm sure won't help.

bummer.

I've found lighting (specifically contrast) to be the key with at least eye-toy groove. I don't know if DDREX has a "low light" option like eye toy groove, but if it does, turn it on.

We have a fractl painting as a back ground, and eye toy groove is still useable, but yes, we have problems.

White gloves and black sleaves!!

My DDREX is coming today as well, so I can report more on how to tweak it once it here.

Did I get a chance to warn you about the UI. I think it's the thing I'm dreading most.

I've seent the complete song list, and there isn't anything too exciting on it. I'm still curious what the new song's foot ratings are, but I'm guessings 7s or 6s. I really can't imagine good steps to some of the Karaoke revolution songs.
