Fun with the TSA
Sep. 19th, 2005 12:26 pmI flew to Las Vegas in June 2004 for the 2004 NHC and
SpaceShipOne launch. This year, some rumors started circulating about TSA's "Secure Flight" program, notably that they had collected passenger name records from June 2004 in violation of the Privacy Act. I eventually ran across
this blog post, which had a nice boilerplate request for one's data from the TSA in that program (These people are taking it to the next level and suing TSA to get records which they think TSA has or is in the process of destroying.). I sent one in asking for my information.
I quickly recieved a letter acknowledging my request and assigning a case number. Today I got a letter advising me that they need the carrier I flew on, the dates I flew, and the phone number I used as a contact number in the reservations in order to proceed. I'm a bit leery; most likely, that's all the information that they have in their various databases anyway, so it seems silly to supply them with some information just to get it echoed back at me. That's about what happened when I requested my information from Acxiom and LocatePlus (still haven't heard back from ChoicePoint), although it took Acxiom thirty pages to say "nope, no information here".
At least I've had the entertainment of getting mail from the Department of Homeland Security a few times.
